Brief Artistic Statement

Specialized in portraits and the painting of landscapes and natural and urban habitats, I'm an amateur painter who lives in Condeixa-a-Nova, in the district of Coimbra, Portugal. I use oil painting as my preferred medium. I've held 7 physical solo exhibitions and have a portfolio of over 260 paintings.

In addition to my professional career, I dedicate much of my free time to art, including the study of art history, in-depth study of oil painting techniques, visiting museums and exhibitions, studying other painters, drawing, and actual painting.

I use an up-to-date, refreshing approach, closely linked to ecology and to an attitude that favours harmony between people, society, and the environment. I classify my style as representational (figurative and realistic), that is, I create art that represents something that can be easily recognized by the public. I always choose simple and direct themes, preferably with an abundance of light and colour, as, in my opinion, these are the 'components' that are at the basis of artistic creation since the origin of Humanity. By using reality as my main source of inspiration, I draw on the never-ending originality of our world and of our very human nature, which repeats but also re-creates itself. Along these lines, I seek to captivate the viewer's attention through the combination of three factors: simplicity, light/colour, and composition.

I hold a PhD in Computer Science, and I am an Electrical Engineer and a University Professor.
